It’s been a super busy Autumn so far. Here’s a round up of a few things I’ve been doing:

CHOCOLATE FACTORY OPEN STUDIOS (14 and 15 November) – back by popular demand (check out mention here!) I performed free short gigs – extracts from Snapshots at Stella Polaris Studios on the piano I recorded my album in. The studio was jam-packed for all performances with children seated on the floor by my feet! The most intimate performance I’ve done to date!!

We also screened some short films as part of Open Studios including:

Where Are They From? A film by Suki Mok and myself charting the stories of artists. More info in a previous post.

Collage Arts 30 Years … A Journey a short film commissioned by Collage Arts to celebrate it’s 30 year anniversary. Some of the artists featured include Indian dancer Amina Khayyam, sculptor Stephen Gregory, sign-makers Goodwin & Goodwin, charity PramDepot, musician Xantone Blacq, and Mountview Theatre Academy.

Filming and editing by Suki Mok

Composition of soundtrack Øyvind Aamli at Stella Polaris Studios  (using sounds generated from the artists at work) with some strings and vox from me.

Here’s the video:

We also premiered the music video ‘In My Head’ by Øyvind Aamli filmed by Suki Mok, directed by Andre Radmall and featuring Lynsey Berry on vocals and starring the gorgeous actress Jennifer Lim.

#SG50 PERFORMANCES:

Dennis Lee and I performed at the ‘Official’ SG50 Singapore Community Day on 7 November at Hammersmith Town Hall to a very enthusiastic crowd of Singaporeans.

SG Community Day

We also performed at Asia House on 23 November collaborating with Mark Troop from Yin Yang Collective and Joanna Zhenghui Qiu on erhu in a special concert celebrating Singapore Independence including a Singaporean medley Mark arranged for the evening.

THEATRE SHOW

At the end of October I had the pleasure of writing (and playing) music for a week’s R&D for Daniel York Loh’s play ‘the forgotten of the forgotten‘ about the 140,000 or so ‘forgotten’ Chinese people who laboured for the French and British during World War One, under the expert guidance of director Rikki Henry at Theatre Royal Stratford East. Here’s an interview by Daniel about the show.

We had an amazing team – cast: Elizabeth Chan, Sui Hun Li, Andrew Koji, Matthew Leonhart, Andrew Leung and Leo Wan, movement specialist Jane Gibson, designer Petra Hjortsberg with filming by Ikin Yum and live artwork by war artists Ben H Summers, assistant director Jade Lewis, produced by Gemma Lloyd (Act Up) for Moongate Productions (have I missed anyone out?) So much fun! hoping we get to rehearse and develop the whole play!

We’re working on a trailer so will post it when it’s available.

So now I’m entering the Christmas festive season – I’m playing the organ this weekend with a brass section and choir, we have numerous school choir performances and carol concerts …. and then there’s Christmas! I do love this time of year ;) x
