Arun Ghosh Arkestra Makara
=
Listen to Arun Ghosh introducing his Arkestra Makara ensemble, which performed at the Asia Stage as part of BT River of Music.

Arun Ghosh Arkestra Makara is a Pan-Asian chamber orchestra. It brings together musicians from across the continent, including Bhutan, India, Japan, the Maldives, Nepal, Burma, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea and Sri Lanka, as well as the UK.

Led by clarinetist Arun Ghosh and driven by a cross-continental swirl of gongs, percussion, lutes and harps, Arkestra Makara perform brand new compositions and works forged from re-imagined traditional forms.

The set also features Urban Playground, young musicians from Morpeth School in east London. Working with Arun in workshops in the lead up to the BT River of Music, they co-composed a new piece, and contributed to the finale, a new arrangement of Ghosh’s Caliban’s Revenge.
